Copyright (c) 2026 SotaOCR
1. DEFINITIONS
“Software” means the source code, object code, documentation, and other
materials to which this License is expressly applied.
“Licensor” means the copyright holder applying this License to the Software.
“Contributor” means any person or legal entity that intentionally submits
copyrightable material for inclusion in the Software.
“Contribution” means such submitted material.
“Covered Product” means any software product, website, application, service,
library, command-line tool, API, or other work that:
(a) contains, incorporates, embeds, bundles, statically or dynamically links
to, or is derived from all or a substantial portion of the Software; or
(b) runs the Software or a modified version of the Software in order to provide
functionality to users, including functionality provided over a computer
network.
Private development and testing performed solely by the persons actively
developing the Covered Product, without making it available to other users,
does not by itself create a Covered Product.
“Attribution Notice” means:
Powered by SotaOCR
“Attribution URL” means:
https://sotaocr.com/free-ocr
2. COPYRIGHT LICENSE
Subject to the terms and conditions of this License, each Licensor and
Contributor grants to You a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive,
perpetual, and irrevocable, except as expressly provided in Section 9,
copyright license to:
(a) use, reproduce, modify, adapt, translate, and prepare derivative works of
the Software;
(b) publicly display and publicly perform the Software;
(c) distribute, communicate, publish, sublicense, and sell copies of the
Software or derivative works;
(d) combine the Software with other software or materials;
(e) host, operate, and make the Software or derivative works available as a
service over a computer network; and
(f) permit third parties to do any of the foregoing.
These permissions apply for commercial and non-commercial purposes and to
both source and object forms of the Software.
3. PATENT LICENSE
Subject to the terms and conditions of this License, each Contributor grants
to You a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive patent license under patent
claims controlled by that Contributor that are necessarily infringed by the
Contributor’s Contribution alone or by the combination of that Contribution
with the Software as submitted by the Contributor, to make, have made, use,
offer to sell, sell, import, and otherwise transfer the Software.
If You initiate patent litigation against a Licensor or Contributor alleging
that the Software or a Contribution infringes a patent, the patent licenses
granted to You by the party against whom the litigation is initiated terminate
as of the date the litigation is filed.
4. ATTRIBUTION-LINK REQUIREMENT
Every Covered Product must provide the Attribution Notice and Attribution URL
to its users as follows.
4.1 Graphical and Web Interfaces
If a Covered Product has a graphical or web-based user interface capable of
presenting hyperlinks:
(a) the Attribution Notice must be displayed in a reasonably prominent,
readily visible, and legible location in or immediately adjacent to the
primary interface through which users access functionality supplied by
the Software;
(b) either “SotaOCR” or the complete Attribution URL
within the Attribution Notice must be a functioning, user-activatable
hyperlink leading directly to the Attribution URL;
(c) the hyperlink must not be disabled, obscured, hidden by default, rendered
unreadable, or placed behind a collapsed control;
(d) the Attribution Notice must be displayed either on the initial screen of
each user session or in a persistent header, footer, menu, panel, or other
location visible during ordinary use of the relevant functionality; and
(e) inclusion solely in source code, bundled license files, general legal
notices, documentation, or an “About” page is not sufficient when the
Covered Product has a primary graphical interface in which the attribution
can reasonably be displayed.
4.2 Command-Line and Non-Graphical Interfaces
If a Covered Product has no graphical interface capable of presenting a
hyperlink:
(a) the Attribution Notice and complete Attribution URL must be displayed in
the Covered Product’s primary documentation; and
(b) the Attribution Notice and complete Attribution URL must be available
through a customary command or output location, such as startup output,
“--about”, “--version”, help output, package metadata, or an equivalent
mechanism.
If the Covered Product also has a public website, documentation website,
repository page, or service landing page, that page must display the
Attribution Notice with a functioning hyperlink to the Attribution URL.
4.3 APIs and Headless Services
If a Covered Product is primarily an API, background service, or headless
service:
(a) the Attribution Notice and Attribution URL must appear in the primary API
documentation or service documentation; and
(b) if that documentation is presented through a web interface, the project
name or URL must be a functioning hyperlink to the Attribution URL.
4.4 Modified and Larger Works
The attribution requirements apply to:
(a) unmodified copies of the Software;
(b) modified versions and derivative works;
(c) products that incorporate or depend upon the Software; and
(d) larger works combining the Software with code or materials governed by
other terms.
The Attribution Notice may be reformatted, translated, or moved to another
location only if the resulting attribution continues to satisfy this Section.
The project name and Attribution URL must not be altered.
If a Covered Product displays comparable technology, framework, engine, or
platform attributions for other parties, the Attribution Notice required by
this License must be no less prominent than those comparable attributions.
4.5 No Endorsement
The required attribution identifies the origin of part of the Covered Product.
It must not be presented in a manner suggesting that the Licensor endorses,
sponsors, certifies, or is responsible for the Covered Product or any
modifications made by third parties.
5. REDISTRIBUTION AND NOTICES
All copies or substantial portions of the Software distributed in source form
must retain:
(a) the applicable copyright notices;
(b) this License or an accessible copy of this License; and
(c) the Attribution Notice and Attribution URL.
A distribution in object, executable, binary, WebAssembly, minified,
transpiled, or other non-source form must include an accessible copy of this
License in accompanying documentation, legal notices, package metadata, or
another location customarily used for third-party licenses.
Modified versions must include a reasonable notice stating that the Software
has been modified. Such notice must not falsely attribute third-party
modifications to the original Licensor or Contributors.
You may license Your own additions to the Software, or other portions of a
larger work, under terms of Your choice. However, no such terms may purport to
remove, override, or prevent compliance with the obligations of this License
with respect to the Software or portions derived from the Software.
6. CONTRIBUTIONS
Unless expressly stated otherwise in writing at the time of submission, each
Contribution intentionally submitted for inclusion in the Software is
provided under this License.
Each Contributor represents that the Contributor has sufficient rights to
provide the Contribution under this License.
7. THIRD-PARTY MATERIALS
This License applies only to material for which the Licensor or Contributors
have authority to grant the rights stated in this License.
Third-party software, model weights, datasets, fonts, media, documentation, or
other materials included with or used by the Software remain subject to their
respective licenses and notices.
Nothing in this License relicenses third-party material or grants rights that
the Licensor or Contributors do not possess.
8. TRADEMARKS
Except for the limited use of the project name reasonably necessary to provide
the Attribution Notice required by Section 4, this License does not grant
permission to use any trade name, trademark, service mark, logo, or product
name of the Licensor or any Contributor.
The required attribution does not grant permission to imply endorsement,
affiliation, sponsorship, or certification.
9. TERMINATION AND CURE
Your rights under this License terminate automatically if You materially fail
to comply with its terms.
If this is Your first violation of this License with respect to the Software,
Your rights are automatically reinstated if You cure the violation within
thirty days after receiving written notice of the violation.
For any subsequent violation, or if the violation is not cured within the
thirty-day period, reinstatement requires express written permission from the
affected copyright holder.
Termination does not affect the rights of recipients who received the Software
or a Covered Product from You while You were in compliance with this License.
10. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTY
THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED “AS IS”, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR
IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY,
FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
THE ENTIRE RISK AS TO THE QUALITY, SAFETY, AND PERFORMANCE OF THE SOFTWARE IS
WITH YOU.
11. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL ANY
LICENSOR OR CONTRIBUTOR BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES, OR OTHER LIABILITY,
WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT, OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF, OR IN CONNECTION
WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE, INCLUDING ANY
DIRECT, INDIRECT, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, EXEMPLARY, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES,
LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, OR COMPUTER FAILURE.
12. SEVERABILITY
If any provision of this License is held unenforceable, that provision shall
be enforced to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, and the
remaining provisions shall remain in effect.
